picture an avant-garde art film where A Space Odyssey meets the birth of a Christmas baby (not Jesus) on Mars and everybody’s doomed. now,  replace the actors with Oklahoma psychedelic alternative rock bandmembers, The Flamming Lips. there is no real plot to speak of….

it’s Mars. there’s no air  & it’s Christmas. everyone is going to die unless the “scientists” can figure out how sustain life on the spaceships they arrived in, and in the middle of all this, one guy decides to “christened” the planet as a birth is about to occur. now add a dash of  David lynch weirdness that you never quite understand,  dreamlike artscenes a la Andy Warhol, except on quadludes instead of speed….then, you might just have a clue what to expect. reguardless, if you grew up on the  MTV era 120 Minutes and remember The Flamings Lips “Tangerine” video (weird psychedelia yes, but you few won’t be disappointed) & are a sci-fi fan at heart, then you just might like Christmas on Mars.
released on DVD 11/11/2008 in three different packages:

package one: typical DVD available at typical retailers

package two: DVD w/ bonus soundtrack CD

pakage three or Mega Deluxe Edition (for all the diehards out there): DVD & soundtrack CD, a movie T-shirt, a collectible movie ticket replicating those used during the rock festival tour, trading cards featuring all four members of the band from the movie on one side and performing on stage on the other, an “Eat Your Own Spaceship” bumper sticker, and a box of Flaming Lips popcorn featuring Wayne  Coyne (Flamings Lips frontman extraordinaire) as The Martian.
